MID-AFTERNOONS ON WRKO/BOSTON
I was the Noon-3PM disc jockey on WRKO for two years. I have the distinction of being the last fulltime disc jockey ever hired by the legendary station before it went to News/Talk in 1981. I was also the only disc jockey WRKO kept on the staff when the format changed. Here’s what I sounded like working the music format.
CO-HOST, MORNING MAGAZINE, WRKO/BOSTON
After WRKO became News/Talk, I co-hosted the morning show with longtime Boston air personality Norm Nathan. Here’s a clip of Norm and me playing the Time Capsule Quiz, a nationally syndicated radio feature I’ve hosted since 1981.
LANCE KRINDLEMAN ON “SPORTSCALL”, WRKO/BOSTON
One of the radio characters I’ve created is Lance Krindleman, whose nasal, twangy voice would often be heard during WRKO’s sports call-in show, “SportsCall”, hosted by Glenn Ordway. When Major League Baseball went out on strike in 1981, Lance made an unexpected visit via telephone to SportsCall.
“THE MAGIC of IRELAND”, WMJX-FM/BOSTON
As morning host of WMJX’s Soft Rock format, I had the pleasure of traveling to Dublin, Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day for three consecutive years, broadcasting live from the RTE studios with my newsman, Rod Fritz. These broadcasts earned us three International Radio Festival of New York awards for “Best Special Event.”
COMMERCIAL SAMPLES
Whether it’s a national radio campaign for Powerade or a commercial parody for any number of regional radio advertisers, creating ear-catching and unusual radio spots has always been one of my favorite challenges.
This is a compilation of snippets from just a small collection of commercials I’ve written and produced over the years.
Telemarketing Magazine
Vocal Point has been so well-received in corporate training circles that Telemarketing asked me to write two articles illustrating the Vocal Point philosophy. Here they are.
