What exactly does Vocal Point teach?
Unlike so many other “speech courses”, Vocal Point is an upbeat, entertaining and highly motivational program that shares many tricks-of-the-trade used by broadcasters to add color to their voices. With these clever, unique and extremely effective techniques, you’ll immediately add enthusiasm, emphasis and influence to your voice.
What are some of those techniques and exercises?
One of the very first areas Vocal Point covers is the indisputable reality that people don’t really know how their own voice sounds when they speak! Our ears weren’t designed to tell us how we sound, but how the world around us sounds. The first time people hear themselves on a tape recorder, their first reaction is usually, “That’s not me! I don’t sound like that!”
Step One in creating an effective speaking voice is listening to a recording of yourself. That’s usually an education in itself. Vocal Point teaches you what to listen for when hearing your own voice — and what to do to give it new life and luster.
One Vocal Point exercise deals with what I call “Lazy Face”. Watch most people when they speak in a business environment — especially on the telephone — and you’ll notice very little animation or expression in their faces. The sound of your voice is almost directly connected to your facial expressions, so Vocal Point teaches easy and enjoyable exercises that can correct “Lazy Face”.
“My people actually enjoy using the Vocal Point techniques!”
Jim Neister, Unifirst Corp.
My company is opening overseas call centers. Some of our agents have accents which are difficult to understand. Can Vocal Point address this issue?
Definitely. In fact, people from this country often have voices which bear strong regionalisms and other affectations which can reduce their job performance.
As a native New Englander, I suffered from a serious “Boston Accent” before entering broadcasting, and it was through the exercises and techniques I developed for the Vocal Point program that I was able to eliminate that regionalism.
Foreign accents are not always a problem, but when they are, there are ways to correct them.
How long is a Vocal Point seminar?
It’s a fast-paced, upbeat two-hour presentation that includes interactive exercises covering both voice mechanics and voice dynamics.
Many Vocal Point attendees who have received prior voice training or attended public speaking classes are surprised to discover how much more relevant and effective the Vocal Point program is in teaching powerful speaking skills that DO make an immediate difference.

“Within hours of the Vocal Point seminar, my telemarketers doubled their sales volume.”
Joe Merullo, Sears Roebuck
What is the ideal group size for a seminar?
Actually, there’s no such thing! Vocal Point seminars have instructed groups as large as 300 and as small as 10.
The bottom line is that everyone, in any corporate environment, regardless of job description, can benefit from Vocal Point — not only in the professional arena, but in their personal lives, too.
We’ve also scheduled multiple seminars on the same day, when it was necessary to split large numbers of attendees into groups. In those instances, subsequent seminars held on the same day are offered at a reduced rate.
Where are the seminars held?
Our experience has shown us that on-site seminars are most effective. Most companies have meeting/training rooms or employee lounges in their facilities. We’ve even held Vocal Point seminars in the company warehouse!
Conducting the seminars on-site avoids travel for the attendees and allows participants to get right back to work, where they can begin using what they’ve just learned.
Can Vocal Point travel to us if we’re in another part of the country?
Absolutely.
Travel, lodging expenses and ground transportation to bring me to your meeting site would simply be added to the seminar fee.
“Bill is an extraordinary teacher who will help you utilize your most valuable asset: Your voice.”
